Biotropics Malaysia Berhad (Biotropics) was incorporated in February 2007 to develop and commercialise Malaysia’s bio-resources into superior natural health product for the international market. In addition to our in-house scientific expertises, we confer with KOL, scientists and researchers from esteemed universities and research centres around the world. The community has been instrumental in developing new standards, procedures & protocols or testing methodologies that have contributed greatly to the researches and development of safe, efficacious natural health products.

Professor Ralf Henke

Prof Ralf Henkel is a Senior Professor at the Department of Medical Biosciences, University of the Western Cape, South Africa. Prior to this, Prof Henkel worked as an investigator in several hospital institutes for more than 20 years in Germany, focusing on Reproductive Medicine including in-vitro fertilization.

He is the Regional Coordinator in Africa of Asian Journal of Andrology, and on the Editorial Board of several leading Journals including Andrologia. His current research interests focuses on Andrological area such as impact of reactive species on sperm functions,fertilization and pregnancy, leading to over 300 journal papers under his name and author of several books.

He keenly investigates natural remedies including Physta™ – the proprietary and standardized Tongkat Ali extract from Biotropics.

Professor Emeritus
Dr Ismail Thambi

Dr Ismail Tambi is a Consultant Clinical Andrologist and a Reproductive and Sexual Health Specialist. As Malaysia’s only Clinical Andrologist, he pursued a World Health Organization research fellowship in clinical andrology and semenology.

Dr Ismail has studied the use of Physta™ for more than ten years in men, and has been a strong proponent of Tongkat Ali.
Over the years, he has studied its safety, efficacy in improving quality of life in men.

He has also been doing post-marketing studies on Tongkat Ali (under the brand name of Nu-Prep), conducts seminars and frequently speaks on TV about his researches and topics associated with male health, including the effects of Tongkat Ali on anti-aging.

Professor Dr Suzana Sahar

Prof Dr Suzana Shahar obtained her BSc (Hons) (Dietetics) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, followed by her MMedSci (Human Nutrition) and PhD (Human Nutrition) from the University of Sheffield. 

Her research interest is on nutrition and epidemiology of aging, nutrition and neuroscience and cancer.  

She has vast nationwide experience relating to aging and neuroscience. Her activities include receiving the International Life Sciences Institute’s grant to determine predictors of successful aging among Malaysian elderly, driving the Ministry of Education project ‘Neuroprotective Model for Healthy Longevity among Malaysian Elderly’, and being co-researcher of national surveys on health and older adults.

She is on the Editorial Board of several Malaysian journals and has published more than 180 publications in the form of articles in peer-reviewed journal, books and chapters in books. 

She is also the co-director for Malaysia Establishment of ASEAN-Wide Research Networking on Ageing, the Leadership Committee of the International Research Networking on Dementia Prevention (IRNDP), member of the Cohort Studies of Memory in An International Consortium (COSMIC) and member of the WHO Group Development Guideline of Risk Reduction of Cognitive Decline.

Dr. Ab Rasip Bin Ab Ghaini

About

Dr. Ab. Rasip is a plant geneticist who formally served the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) for over 30 years.

He is currently a facilitator under the Department of Agriculture Malaysia and overseeing new plant variety testing in Serdang, Selangor.

He has vast experiences in tree improvements, forest genetics, tree breeding and was instrumental in tackling the Plant Variety Protection (PVP) under the national and regional mandate in preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems.

A renowned Malaysian forester, he has humbly authored various peer reviewed publications and has mentored various post-graduate candidates in the field.

Chokyun Rha

About

A Professor of Biomaterials Sciences and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), Dr. Rha leads the Biomaterials Science and Engineering Laboratory at the Institute.

Professor Rha’s research is aimed at the discovery and engineering of novel biomolecules in a complex systems biology framework and biomaterials for process manufacturing. The focus is on determination of their structure, function and bioactivity.

She was the founding and principal investigator for the “Malaysia-MIT Biotechnology Partnership Program”, a Malaysian national biotechnology program supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation that involved collaborative research, development and training between nineteen Malaysian organizations and MIT.

Professor Rha has published more than 200 scientific articles and holds over 20 patents. Her research and discoveries have been instrumental in the commercialization and start-up of several biotechnology ventures.

Chris Kilham

About

As the founder of Medicine Hunter Inc., Chris has conducted medicinal plant research in over 45 countries. He works with companies to develop and popularize traditional plant-based food and medicinal products into market successes.

His work includes kava, maca, rhodiola, schisandra, tamanu oil, cat’s claw, dragon’s blood, ayahuasca, and hundreds of other plants. His most recent discovery is Kesum or known as Perscicaria, minor for memory boosting effects.

Chris has been featured in several international TV and radio programmes including the Dr. Oz Show and The New York Times and ABC News Nightline.

He has written fourteen books including The Ayahuasca Test Pilots Handbook, Psyche Delicacies and The Five Tibetans, which has been published in over 28 languages.

Dr. Sun Tao

About

Dr. Sun is a chief scientist, professor and chief physician, with expertise in anti-aging and stem cell technologies.

He studied at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Medicine, and has a post-doctorate from the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center of Georgetown University.

His early work on therapies includes autologous bone marrow stem cell transplantation in the treatment of lower limb ischemia, embryonic stem cell transplantation, mesenchymal stem cell transplantation and oncogen interventional therapy.

In 2008, he began to work on the application of autologous cells for anti-aging, wrinkle removal, breast augmentation, autologous PRP and skin rejuvenation among others.

His other accomplishments include introducing American stem cell activating enzymes (SCAEs) technology and the Japanese agaricin technology to China, as well as the development of related high-end anti-aging products.

Dr. Annie George

About

Dr. Annie George has over 20 years experience in research. She joined Biotropics Malaysia Berhad in 2007 and manages the research and development of plants. She has managed 12 clinical trials on herbal products for efficacy and safety in the indication of mens and womens health, diabetis, cognition, weight loss, immune and liver health. Annie is currently the co-inventor for 11 patents filed on natural products, the latest being Eurycoma longifolia for immune health and anti-viral properties  and Polygonum minus for memory enhancement.Prior to Biotropics, Annie had also worked on natural products for antibiotics in a Japanese company, Nimura Genetic Solutions and is the co-inventor for an anti-MRSA compound.  Prior to this, she has worked  on tissue culture of near extinct plants such as the Pitcher plant ie. monkey plant and food crops Annie has published several publications in peer-reviewed journals with a focus on herbal plants and holds a Masters in Biotechnology.

Professor Katsuiku Hirokawa

About

Professor Katsuiku Hirokawa, M.D., PhD graduated in 1964 in Pathology and is now emeritus Professor of Pathology of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University. His previous service involves being appointed as visiting fellow in Gerontology Research Center, USA (1972-1974) serving various research and faculty posts during his career. Nowadays, he is a pathologist in Nakano General Hospital in Tokyo tasked with managing the Institute of Health and Life Sciences (HLS) as Chairman. His focus area in HLS is centered around assessment of immunological vigor using human peripheral blood including the role of the thymus in immunosenescence and various anti-aging interventions including immunological restoration. He has authored more than 200 papers and are associated with various association such as The Japanese Society of Pathology, Japanese Society for Immunology, Japan Geriatric Society, Japan Society for Biomedical Gerontology, Kyoto T Cell Conference and Japanese Cancer Association.

Professor of Microbiology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds positions as Co-Director of the Malaysia-MIT Biotechnology Partnership Program and as Faculty Director of the MIT Center for Biomedical Innovation (CBI).
